Erin Trapp, LICSW, MSW, PhD (she/they)

I am guided by psychoanalytic, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive theories. I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to explore themselves and their emotional lives. My therapeutic approach centers on tending to and compassionately making space for one’s inner life and unconscious wishes, thoughts, and fantasies. I value the role of therapeutic work in creating sustainable and meaningful community and life experiences. I believe that systemic oppression, colonialism, racism, and power/privilege come to bear on our most intimate thoughts and feelings and on our fundamental ideas about who we are and what we are doing.

I completed training in psychotherapy during a two-year fellowship at the low-fee clinic of the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (MPSI). During this time, I also completed a two-year educational training program in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at MPSI. I am currently studying in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy certificate training program at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.

I see individuals in therapy to address a variety of concerns and issues, including anxiety, grief and loss, depression, experiences of dissociation, extreme states, trauma and stress, and life transitions.

I am deeply interested in working with individuals around emotions and experiences related to climate change and the environment, including climate grief, feelings of (eco)despair, loss, and anxiety experienced in relation to climate breakdown and environmental destruction. I am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America.

In addition to other professional affiliations, I am a member of the International Society for the Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis (ISPS) and an active participant in the local Minnesota branch.
